The “Iwa Ji” or New Yam Festival is a significant cultural tradition among the Igbo people of Nigeria. It’s a celebration of the yam harvest, expressing gratitude to the gods and ancestors for a successful planting season and the importance of yam in Igbo socio-cultural life. The festival involves rituals, food, music, and dance, with the main focus on honouring the yam and its symbolic significance.

Otu-ihaza is law making body (legislative arm) of Asaba. Amongst some of their tasks includes settling dispute between persons, quarters, and villages who has scores to settle. They can also place fines on people who violets the laws of the land.

Alor is a general practice in various Anioma especially among the Enuani communities although the origin remains largely unknown. It bears several significances where practiced. Alor is largely practiced in other Anioma communities with the name either retained or known as “Ichi-nmor” depending on the particular society. In places like Asaba, a Mkpalor is known as “Ogbueshi”

In Asaba, the “Eze” title signifies the highest traditional title, essentially a “King without a Kingdom”. While the Eze is the highest title, the Asagba is considered the head of all other title holders. An Eze is addressed as “Obi” and greeted “Obi Igwe”
